Why grayscale?
Grayscale (black and white) images have a timeless, classic feel. They reduce visual noise and emphasize form, texture, and contrast. Photographers use grayscale to create dramatic, emotional images. It's also ideal for documents, print materials, and reducing file size.
How it works
Our tool uses the Canvas API to process pixels directly in your browser. The luminosity method (default) weights red, green, and blue channels according to human eye sensitivity: green appears brightest, followed by red, then blue. The average method simply takes the mean of all three channels. The lightness method uses the HSL color model's lightness formula.
